This isn’t too bad, with Playboy model Tompkins making a worthy temptress if anything, she’s almost too nice, popping round to visit Sean’s mom, who is surprisingly cool with the concept of her son getting friendly with someone 50%-plus older. It doesn’t help matters that Sean was involved in an incident that resulted in the death of Ralph’s little brother. However, taking exception to this is Ralph (James), a Vietnam vet obsessed with Diane, who spies on her from near and afar – he pops up in the most ridiculous circumstances, for example donning scuba-gear so he can swim out to her boat and peer through a window at her and Sean. With her husband a shiftless motor-bike drifter who’s never around, she sets her site on eighteen-year old neighbour, Sean (North), who initially resists, but eventually succumbs to the charms of this proto-cougar.
In fact, after the first scene in which she appears, she’s never even at school, since it’s summer vacation. You'll have to follow your own instincts, I guess. It can be tricky sometimes trying to decide to see a movie that has been labeled "disturbing." Sometimes it may end up not bothering you too much, other times you end up with images you never wanted in your head. One thing I will mention is that I turned this movie on when I was almost ready to fall asleep, but once it started, I didn't look away. It gets a little shaky at times, but it's not found footage-it's more like the camera feels what the characters feel, such as the motion of a car. This movie gets pretty messed up, and it is filmed in a way that is meant to immerse you in the situation as much as possible: it appears to unfold in a single, unbroken take (said to actually be four takes, which is still impressive) with a you-are-there positioning of the camera. On the other hand, you should probably have some idea of what you're getting into, especially if you need to avoid certain triggers.
